Robert is proud to be standing as the Conservative candidate for Abbey Ward.
Originally from Ireland, Robert has long-standing family ties to the area and has made Reading his home for the past three years. He works in banking and is currently completing a Master’s degree at Queen Mary University of London.
Robert brings a strong sense of civic duty and is deeply committed to supporting and enhancing the vibrant and diverse community at the heart of Reading.
His priorities for Abbey Ward include:
Tackling Crime
Residents and businesses deserve to feel safe. Robert will push for increased police patrols in key areas such as Kings Road, Broad Street, Friar Street, and around Reading Station. He will work closely with the Police and Crime Commissioner to ensure Reading receives its fair share of policing resources.
Addressing Anti-Social Behaviour
Anti-social behaviour, particularly in and around Broad Street, is a growing concern. From open drug use to theft in broad daylight, stronger enforcement is needed. Robert will advocate for enhanced CCTV coverage and a visible police presence to protect shoppers, residents, and local businesses.
Restoring Respect in Public Spaces
While street performance and free expression are valued, they must be balanced with consideration for others. Persistent breaches of busking guidelines and instances of aggressive street preaching are causing disruption and distress. Robert will support sensible enforcement of existing rules to ensure public spaces remain welcoming for all.
Championing Small Businesses
Local businesses are the backbone of Reading’s economy. With rising business rates and increasing pressures, Robert will stand up for small businesses, working to secure available relief and using council powers where possible. He is committed to ensuring their voices are heard and supported.
Improving Local Infrastructure and Cleanliness
From overflowing bins near the Kennet to poor lighting on Kenavon Drive and ongoing flooding issues on Napier Road, Robert recognises that more must be done. He will push for practical, timely solutions to improve cleanliness, safety, and infrastructure across Abbey Ward.
