Matthew Callow has proudly lived in the vibrant Katesgrove area for six years and values the opportunity to engage with its diverse and welcoming community. Through his work in mental health and social care across South Oxfordshire and Reading, he sees first-hand the challenges many people face in accessing council and other statutory services. Advocacy is central to his professional life, and he would bring that same commitment to standing up for the residents of Katesgrove.
As a mental health professional, Matthew understands that feeling safe and secure in the community is fundamental to wellbeing and essential for people to thrive. He recognises the impact that antisocial behaviour can have on working people and vulnerable residents, and has already been proactive in raising these concerns with the Police and the Council. Tackling antisocial behaviour will remain a key priority. If elected, he will work to strengthen relationships with law enforcement, push for increased visibility of PCSOs, support targeted operations in high-risk areas, and help local businesses address the ongoing issue of shoplifting.
Matthew believes that no one should feel excluded from public spaces due to intimidation or poor accessibility. He is committed to ensuring that local streets and shared spaces are clean, well-maintained, and welcoming to all. He will work to improve the local environment by ensuring rented properties are properly maintained and conservation standards are upheld. While Katesgrove has seen significant development, he will advocate for balanced growth that does not negatively impact the community socially or environmentally.
Traffic congestion and pollution are also key concerns. As a regular runner in the area, Matthew experiences the impact of poor air quality firsthand. He will advocate for practical improvements to reduce congestion, including addressing road conditions and key choke points to improve traffic flow.
Matthew believes strong communities are built by bringing people together. Katesgrove is fortunate to have active community associations, and he will champion their work, amplify their voices, and support their growth.
As the Conservative candidate for Katesgrove, Matthew Callow is committed to rewarding hard work, protecting the vulnerable, and improving quality of life for everyone in the community.
