🚧 Petition: Fix Henley Road & Caversham Bridge – No More Delays 🚧
We are calling on Reading Borough Council to take urgent action on the failing surface of Henley Road (A4155) and the unacceptable condition of Caversham Bridge.
Henley Road is in a visibly poor state. As a key route into Reading — including access to Reading Crematorium — it should allow funeral processions to pass with dignity, not along a worn, uneven surface.
🚗 Drivers, cyclists, and motorbike riders are forced to avoid defects
⚠️ This creates safety risks for all road users, including pedestrians
🔊 The degraded surface is noisy and disruptive for nearby residents
💥 It’s also causing unnecessary damage to vehicles
The Council has acknowledged the road has reached the end of its life — but being “under consideration” isn’t enough. Residents need clear timelines and action now.
Caversham Bridge is just as concerning. A surface that has failed within two years is unacceptable. Ongoing discussions must lead to action — not more delay.
We are calling on Reading Borough Council to:
✔️ Set and publish a firm timetable for Henley Road resurfacing
✔️ Guarantee inclusion in the next resurfacing programme
✔️ Deliver a clear resolution for Caversham Bridge urgently
✔️ Hold the contractor accountable — not taxpayers
✔️ Provide transparent updates to residents
Residents aren’t asking for consideration — we’re asking for delivery.
Fix the roads. Set the dates. Get it done.
